It is a human nature to rely on testimonials of other people when choosing a product or service. People trust referrals from family and friends than advertisements and other types of referral. Businesses should treat word of mouth marketing seriously because your customers can be your sales force. Word of mouth is also essential in the growth of your business when you’re a start-up. Someone will take interest in buying your product or service because another person said they should try it and this happens a lot. So how will you increase your word of mouth referral? Here are some of the ways to do so:

  • Ask for referrals

Asking for your current customers to help you spread words about how good your business is proves to be one of the most effective ways in increasing word of mouth referral. If they feel like your product or service could really help others, they’d happily refer you to their family and friends.

  • Use social media

Social media is a place where people find information fast. It is also where 2 million people are on. Using social media to encourage people to talk about your business will help you in reaching more people. If they see a post of a friend on Facebook about your product, they will be intrigued by it and chances are, they will try your product too.

  • Connect to the human emotion

Capturing the hearts of your audience is one effective way for your business to be known. If you facilitate a campaign in helping a cancer patient by donating part of you profit to support his medication and hospitalization, people will only say good things about your business. And people will keep talking about it until you establish your name on the market.

  • Build a community

You should bring your customers together with other customers. You could use social media platforms to create a group or create a chatroom on your website where people can talk to and share their experience with your service.

  • Invest in customer experience

There is no strategy better than delivering exceptional customer service. If you satisfy all your customers, how they can say anything bad about your business? They can only talk about how good their experience is and happy customers will surely influence other people to try your service.

As a business owner, what people say about your products/services is what matters the most to you. Testimonials of people who have used your services and products have great impact on potential buyers. That is why it is extremely important that you deliver exceptional service so that people will have good things to say about your business. Building a relationship with consumers is also important as it will promote loyalty. Reviews are important because most potential buyers depend on the star ratings that your business has. So how will you score 5 out of 5 star rating?

Here are some of the tips I have to help you score a 5 star review:

  1. Focus on your loyal customers

It will be easier for you to get a 5 from people who already love your products/services.

  1. Do not be pushy when asking for reviews

You don’t know what an attitude a person has. Being pushy irritates people most of the time and you don’t want that happening. Just do your best in delivering good customer service and if they appreciate it, they will surely leave a good review.

  1. Proactively ask for reviews

You might not want to do this but this is one of the most effective ways in getting good reviews. But then again, just don’t be pushy. Choose customers who you know love your service. You can ask for a review by sending your loyal customers email, you can also write a blog about it or conduct a podcast.

  1. Turn negative review into positive

Do not let one negative review affect the whole reputation of your business. You need to get as much positive reviews as possible to cover the negative ones. You could also try reaching out to customers who find your service horrible to learn what went wrong and you could avoid that in the future. How you respond to a negative review will reflect on the kind of business you are. You can actually win back the unhappy customers (and even potential customers who read the bad review) so deal with it as professionally as you can.

  1. Take the opportunity to ask “How can we make your experience better?”

Reviews answering this question will let you discover your business’ weaknesses based on customers’ perception. You’ll then have the opportunity to improve your service.

Being able to communicate effectively is a skill one should have in order to succeed in the business world. How you communicate greatly affects the relationships you have in your life and work. You should not just be careful in choosing the words you say to avoid conflicts, but you should also be mindful of how you say what you have to say. Sometimes, when we let our emotions overpower our minds, we say things we regret saying in the end. You might be someone who is afraid of talking to different kind of people. Whether you are a wallflower or an outgoing person, you should learn to be able to communicate effectively. If you feel like you’re not a good communicator yet, you should start practicing to be one. Here are some of the effective communication skills you must have:

  • Active Listening

When someone is talking, you just don’t listen to the words they say, you have to understand them. You need to be alert and show interest in what the other person has to say. Do not interrupt them when they talk but give nonverbal cues like nodding to let them know that you are listening. If you are an active listener, you will be able to respond accordingly to what they say when it’s your time to speak.

  • Empathize

This is putting yourself in another person’s position. Try to think and feel the way they do so that you can understand better where they are coming from. When you empathize, you avoid being judgmental and you can choose the right words to say to other people. You become sensitive of their feelings.

  • Use eye contact

Making eye contact with whoever you are talking to will make them feel your sincerity. If they feel that you are sincere, then they are encouraged to talk to you even more. When done right, this will also show people that you are confident and you actually believe the words that are coming out of your own mouth. You will look credible to them.

  • Use humor

Joking a little lightens up a situation, just make sure that you do it on the right time at the right situation. People love a funny and smart person. If you use your sense of humor correctly, you will surely catch the hearts of a lot of people.

  • Ask questions

Asking questions will let them know that you are listening and you are interested in what they are talking about. Just make sure that you do not ask too much questions as if you don’t understand what they are saying at all. Ask smart questions.

  • Build Rapport

Make them feel comfortable talking to you. Building rapport is like building trust. Find something that you share common interest with another person and open a topic about it. Ask them how they are doing or ask light questions that will make them feel at ease talking to you.

  • Use of nonverbal cues

Talking should involve gestures and body language. You can’t just stand stiffly then talk and expect everyone will believe what you’re saying. You should make people feel that they are actually listening and talking to a human being who has emotions.
